The Old Yeller II Buick Special was featured in the official Monterey Historic Races 2006 program as it was the 2005 Rolex Phil Hill Monterey Cup winner. Bill Krause was racing the car in the full page photograph in the program and the image was spectacular with Bill cutting across the dirt at the apex of the famous “Corkscrew” turn at Laguna Seca Raceway.
To our great surprise, there was a huge display of the history of the Old Yeller II in the Rolex Exhibition tent - “Moments in Time" display. There were several eight foot panels with terrific graphics and a blazing title - “JUNKYARD DOG” in stencil font.
The display included historical photos and an image of the painting of the Old Yeller II by world famous artist Barry Rowe. There was a platform for the car and we had to take the Old Yeller II out of the Exhibition Tent for the races during the weekend.
We attended the Rolex Watch USA dinner as they honored Sir Jack Brabham and Phil Hill was in attendance.
